Here is a snippet from the Declaration of Independence.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
In a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's 33rd Annual Award Gala on September 15, 2010, Obama quoted that very same line:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, endowed with certain inalienable Rights: Life and Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
Notice how he removed "by their Creator"? For me, this suggest he's either:
- very strongly atheist and did not want to use those words
- he wanted to appeal to the atheist Left
- he's Muslim and is against the fact that the Declaration of Independence was drafted with Jesus Christ in mind
- he doesn't even know the real quote and the speechwriter left it out for his own personal reasons
Notice the very LONG pause before he omits the word "creator". It suggests he is thinking about what to say.
